Lappeenranta University of Technology: Everything related to studying in one place

Lappeenranta University of Technology developed their internal communications as well as facilitated students' access to information through a personalized intranet.

UNI-Student portal collects everything related to studying into one place

Lappeenranta University of Technology developed their internal communications as well as facilitated students' access to information through a personalized intranet. The development of an intranet launched from the need to create a main communication channel from which the students can find everything related to their studies.

The necessary functionalities were constructed via several integrations from the systems the university was using such as the student portal, Noppa. Two separate navigational structures, one degree specific and the other for all students, were developed. Logging into the Uni-student portal gives the student access to a personalized intranet, where e-mail, a calendar, news, current events on study modules, user-specific and common lists of links can be found.

User-friendliness and the nature of the information were taken into account throughout the development process. The functionality created into the news allows for the filtering of news stories. The user also has the rights to delimit the links and edit portlets. The entire development work was done by utilizing agile development methods in which case the customer has the opportunity to monitor progress and give feedback. Monitoring, feedback and continuous development guided the process throughout.
